Gilmore Girls Season Seven, Episode Four: ‘S Wonderful, ‘S Marvelous

Lorelai and Christopher are now dating; they’ve seen five bad movies in a row, Snakes on a Plane being the latest. Lorelai goes inside and she and Rory talk about things. Rory says she’s glad things are good between Lorelai and Chris, but she wants her to be careful with her feelings. Sookie gives her the same talk the next day. Lorelai is annoyed.

Anna is going out of town because her mother is having surgery and Anna’s going to be with her. While she’s gone, April will be staying with Luke. April says Luke’s apartment is kind of depressing, so she suggests they go to Target to get some things. When they get back, April says he can use the new candles and tablecloth to impress any ladies who come over. Luke tells her he’s okay being single.

School is starting again, so Rory moves back into Logan’s apartment (it’s paid for through the end of the year). She’s feeling a little lonely with Logan gone. She goes to an art thing for the paper and meets a couple of girls, Olivia and Lucy, and they take her under their wing and explain some of the art to her. She takes them back to her apartment after the show and they hang out. (Lucy’s the one in the horrible Cindy Brady dress.)

Christopher takes Lorelai on a super special date in a pretty red convertible. They drive to a barn in the middle of nowhere and park. Christopher honks the horn and suddenly a projector starts up and Funny Face starts playing on the wall of the barn. There’s popcorn in the console, snacks in the glove compartment and drinks in a cooler in the backseat. After the movie, Christopher asks Lorelai if she wants to spend the night at his place. She says she’s not sure if she’s ready for that step yet.

Emily is driving home from a dinner and talking to Richard about his first day as a guest lecturer at Yale, and she gets pulled over for driving while talking on a cell phone. The cop thinks she’s been drinking and tries to get her to take a Breathalyzer. While out with Christopher, Lorelai gets a call from someone saying she needs to pick Emily up from jail. She thinks it’s hilarious and takes pictures of all the cops. While they’re driving her home, Emily realizes Lorelai and Christopher were on a date.

After they drop Emily off at home, Christopher takes Lorelai home. She thanks him for going with him to get Emily from jail and then invites him inside.

Rory: I forget what the protocol is when your mom is dating your dad.

Lorelai: We have to go. We have to pick up my mother. From jail.

Also in this episode: Kirk’s having girl trouble. His mother and Lulu are giving him problems.

I hated Olivia and Lucy. It seemed like everyone (the writers, director, and actors) was going for free-spirited but ended up with flighty and annoying instead.

I didn’t really like them either. It was just so obvious that they were just there because the writers were like, “Oh, hey, Rory’s been in college for three years, so maybe it’s time she had some other friends besides Logan and Paris.” And Olivia and Lucy were the characters they came up with for Rory to “cut loose” with during her last year of college.
