Gilmore Girls Season Five, Episode Fifteen: Jews and Chinese Food

Emily and Richard are on their honeymoon, so the Girls spend Friday night together at Yale. Rory waves to Marty, but he avoids her. Rory leaves a newspaper meeting one day to talk to him. I guess she just doesn’t notice how standoffish he’s being because she insists he come hang out with her on Saturday.

Lulu is a teacher at the elementary school, and her class is putting on a production of Fiddler on the Roof. Lorelai signed herself and Luke up to help with sets and costumes weeks ago, and Lulu comes to the diner to remind Luke to be there the next day. When he gets to the school, Crazy Carrie is there. Her daughter is in the play and Carrie is directing. Luke asks Lulu where all the other adults are. It’s obvious he wants to see Lorelai.

Lorelai is driving through town one day and she sees Luke’s boat parked on the street. She goes home to her empty garage and decides to turn it into a special Lorelai place. Sookie comes over to help her out. Michel feels left out, so they invite him over and he ends up doing all the work.

Doyle comes over to Rory’s dorm and starts yelling at Rory for being so disrespectful and running out of the newspaper meeting without his permission. He says this while he’s taking his shoes off and drinking water from Rory’s fridge. She kicks him out, and Paris gets mad at Rory because now she has to spend the night at Doyle’s with his three roommates.

Luke is at the school for the final dress rehearsal and one of the girls trips over her costume. Luke goes to Lorelai’s and yells at her because she should have been there to fix the costume right away. He sort of mocks her special garage, and she says she’s upset that he came and got his boat without telling her. They yell for a while and then Luke leaves. At the production later, Luke and Lorelai make eyes at each other.

Logan comes over and interrupts Rory’s and Marty’s Marx Brothers marathon. He says a bunch of people are going out and he wants Rory and Marty to come along. Marty feels really left out all night, and then he freaks out when Colin says everyone owes seventy-five dollars. Logan offers to pay his share, but Marty doesn’t want him to. He says he needs to find an ATM. Rory follows him outside and he says he only has eighteen dollars in his account so he doesn’t know what to do. Rory gives him the money so he can go back inside and give it to the guys. When they get back to Rory’s dorm, Marty tells Rory he likes her. She says she likes Logan. Aw, poor Marty. Later, Logan knocks on Rory’s window and she lets him into her room. They start making out, and I can only assume they have sex.

Luke: I’ve got a hammer.

Crazy Carrie: Oh, I know you do.

Rory: I’ve never felt the need for zydeco before in my life. No need to change that now.

I just remember loving two parts of this episode, Luke telling Lorelai that she has a whole house of special alone space and then when Marty said his ATM would say he only had $18 and then would flip him off.

I liked Marty. I didn’t really like Marty and Rory, though. How come she gets all the cute college guys fawning over her and I got some creepy guy in front of city hall?

    It’s just not fair, lol!

I liked Marty, too. I thought he was funny. But it pissed me off that he was so obviously supposed to be Rory’s “Luke.” I don’t know why it bothered me, but it did.

I felt so bad for Marty in this ep. I didn’t really like him and Rory as a couple, but I couldn’t imagine being at that dinner and having that conversation with those snarky richies and not wanting to punch one in the eye. (It’d probs be Colin, because I love Logan, and Finn is my Aussie homeboy.)

I was watching this episode, and it was really when Logan was kind of twiddling with Rory’s hair…or something like that.
