Gilmore Girls Season Three, Episode Seven: They Shoot Gilmores, Don’t They?

This is it. The twenty-four hour dance marathon that apparently happens every year, even though we’ve never seen it before and will never see it again. Lorelai wants to win. Kirk wins every year and she’s sick of it. She finds a dance partner, but he backs out when his wife sees a picture of Lorelai. Rory reluctantly agrees to be her partner, but only if Paris says it’s okay to slack off on school paper stuff for the weekend.

Jamie shows up at Chilton and tells Paris he missed her. They haven’t talked since he started at Princeton and Paris thought he’d decided he didn’t like her. He was really just afraid she’d distract him from school, but he hasn’t been able to stop thinking about her. They go out for dinner, and the next day Paris tells Rory she can take the weekend off from paper stuff.

Dean comes by the dance marathon to watch for a while (Lorelai calls him “Spectator Ken”). Jess and Shane come by, too. They sit and make out on the bleachers for a while. During a break from dancing, Dean and Rory argue with Jess. Well, actually, Rory and Jess argue while Dean stands there looking annoyed and Shane stands there looking bored.

Back on the dance floor, Lorelai’s shoe breaks. She pulls Dean up from the bleachers to dance with Rory while she gets Luke to glue her heel back on. Dean is happy to be dancing with Rory, but Rory can’t stop talking about how annoyed she is that Jess is still sitting there watching her. Jess and Rory start yelling at each other and Dean finally gets sick of their verbal copulating. He says he’s not Rory’s boyfriend anymore, and then he walks away, leaving her standing there alone.

Jess finds Rory sitting on the bridge. She tells him Dean was right about everything and that she really does like him. Jess asks her if she’s for sure broken up with Dean. She says she is, so Jess leaves to break up with Shane. Lorelai gets back to the dance floor just as Kirk is being announced as the winner. She’s really upset until she sees Rory come back to the gym in tears.

Rory: There’s this big event that’s happening in my town.

Paris: Pig race?

Rory: Dance marathon.

Paris: I was close.

Also in this episode: Dave Rygalski comes to Stars Hollow to see Lane. When he meets Mrs. Kim, he makes a great impression by pretending to be a Christian who loves her horrible egg salad sandwiches. Also, Sookie and Jackson have a fight because she accidentally agrees to have four kids in four years. Lorelai makes her talk to Jackson and tell him she doesn’t want to do that.

Words cannot fully express my love for this episode. The Rory/Dean/Jessness of it all. The Mrs. Kim egg salad sandwich scenes. The Luke fixing Lorelai’s shoe stuff…one of my all-time favourites.

This one was awsome. I love Luke fixing Lorelai shoe and his comments about “four in four” Lorelai was adorable. Dave and Mrs. Kim. Dean dumps Rory. Kirk wins and I love how cute Emily is when Lorelai’s dance partner bails. One of the best epsiodes.

Go Dean! Go Dean! Go Dean! Rory doesn’t deserve you, anyway.

This is one of my favorite episodes, too, for all the reasons you guys mentioned.

This one’s a classic. I love that Dean stood up for himself and decided not to sit by and watch the “verbal copulating” (love that phrase) any longer. Poor Dean – Rory always treated him like shit. And, Mrs. Kim and her terrible sandwhiches and hatred of dancing! Love that character.
