Gilmore Girls Season Two, Episode Eighteen: Back in the Saddle Again
Rory is annoyed when Dean joins her and Lorelai for breakfast, and then she doesn’t want to go to his softball game. He’s acting really clingy and Rory is getting fed up. Lorelai comes home one day and finds Dean washing Rory’s car. She takes the hose away and makes him come inside. She tells him he’s acting kind of crazed and he should give Rory her space.
Rory needs a parent adviser for a business project in her economics class. I guess Lorelai doesn’t want to get some kind of involved-parent reputation, so she passes Rory off on Richard. Richards turns her down, but Emily gets upset and forces him to do it. The assignment is to come up with a marketable product and to use their imaginary budget to, I don’t know, market it I guess. There’s going to be a contest to see which group wins. Paris comes up with first-aid kits for teenagers’ lockers. Richard thinks it’s a great idea.
Richard and Paris get along splendidly. At the competition, they’re both pretty confident that their project will win. And they both freak out when they lose. Richard yells at Headmaster Charleston and says the contest is a disgrace. Charleston tells him he’s taking the whole thing a little too seriously. Richard goes home and locks himself in the study all evening. He’s still in there when the girls arrive for dinner. When he finally comes out, he’s in a great mood. He’s decided to go into business for himself.
On the way home, Rory says Dean has only paged her once in two days and she’s actually gotten a chance to miss him. Lorelai offers her cell phone so she can call him back, but Rory says she’ll call him tomorrow. Lorelai drops her off at Lane’s and goes home. Dean is on the front porch making his sad Dean face. He says he thinks Rory likes Jess and then he gets up and walks home, still wearing his sad Dean face.
Michel: Yes, well, you know what happens when you assume.
Lorelai: What?
Michel: I don’t know, something about a donkey. It’s a stupid American phrase.
Also in this episode:
- Sookie’s wedding invitations are messed up and she freaks out.
- Michel’s mother visits. Lorelai makes the mistake of telling her Michel doesn’t eat carbs. This causes her to start prying into Michel’s life, which ruins the wonderful relationship they had before.
- Brad is back at Chilton again and is again surprised when Rory remembers him.
- Lane takes an aptitude test and is dismayed to discover she’s best suited to a career in sales.

I don’t know, I probably would have bought one! Only if it was purple though.

Poor Dean. Dude needs to grow a backbone, but I still feel bad for him.

I feel bad for him, too. Especially because I think I treated some guys back in high school the same way Rory’s treating him. Poor guy.
