Gilmore Girls Season Two, Episode Twelve: Richard in Stars Hollow
Rory sees a couple kids at the video store giggling over the Showgirls cover. She mentions it to Kirk, who is working there that day, and says maybe movies like that should be on a higher shelf.
Richard is driving Emily crazy. Ever since he retired, he’s been home all the time, noticing how many cups of coffee she has every day and asking if he can come along with her while she gets her hair done. Emily calls Lorelai and begs her to take him off her hands for a day.
Lorelai tries to get Rory to skip school to hang out with Richard, but Rory refuses. Richard and Lorelai read the paper together for a while and then Lorelai takes him to Luke’s, where he scolds her for not having a grapefruit for breakfast. Lorelai makes Luke go to the market to get one for her. She sends Richard on a tour of Stars Hollow while she works for a while, but he finishes up and comes to the inn. Richard thinks Lorelai should be wearing a work jacket and he doesn’t like that she flirts with the towel delivery guy to makes sure a shipment comes in that day.
Paris wants the Franklin to win some prestigious award and she thinks a great story idea is to find corruption in small towns. She wants to start with Stars Hollow, despite Rory telling her there really isn’t any corruption there. After Paris interrogates Luke about truckers and prostitution in the diner, she and Rory get called into the video store, where Taylor and Kirk have put all objectionable movies behind the Rory Curtain. Pretty much every movie that isn’t made by Disney is in a separate room behind a curtain and it’s all thanks to Rory. Paris says censorship in a small town is going to be the big story. Rory is appalled because she’s totally against censorship.
That night, Dean finishes the car he’s been building for Rory and brings it over to the house. Richard is still hanging around and he says Rory can’t accept the car. Dean invites Richard to accompany him to see Gypsy and have her look it over. Richard ends up sort of apologizing to Dean for being so horrible at dinner that one time. When they get back to the house, Richard announces that Rory can have the car. Lorelai is super pissed and yells at Richard for acting like he ever had any say in the matter at all. She tells him he’s been totally rude all day and she doesn’t appreciate it. Richard says he knows Lorelai invited him over just because Emily asked her to, and then he leaves all indignant as if that makes his behavior okay.
Rory goes to pick up some food for dinner and sees her picture in the window of the video store. Jess comes along and tells her not to worry, he’ll take care of it.
Rory: Stars Hollow doesn’t have a seedy underbelly. We don’t even have a meter maid.

I actually don’t remember what episode I saw first. I used to watch Smallville (ugh) and I would turn on the tv early sometimes and catch Gilmore Girls. At some point I decided it was a much better show than Smallville.
