Gilmore Girls Season Two, Episode Three: Red Light on the Wedding Night
Max is having his apartment painted, so Lorelai says he should spend the weekend at her house as sort of a trial run before the wedding. Never pegged Lorelai as a “can’t live together before we’re married” type. Max comes over and cooks dinner, putting the Gilmores’ stove to use for pretty much the first time ever. The girls are surprised to discover they have a broiler. Lorelai can’t sleep that night and she goes to Rory’s room to talk about the fact that she has a boy in her room. They all go to Luke’s the next morning and everyone acts like Max is a big weirdo because he hasn’t already memorized the menu and wants to look it over for a minute. Luke doesn’t have much time to judge, though, because he’s too busy being angry at Taylor for having a traffic light installed in front of the diner.
To celebrate having Max over, Lorelai wants to double date with Dean and Rory. Dean gives Max some tips about how to keep up with the Girls. When they get back to the house, Max expresses concern that Rory and Dean are on the porch saying goodnight. It is after eleven o’clock, you know. Max wants to know how to handle Rory if she acts up. Lorelai tells him not to worry about it and Max gets mad because he wants to have a role.
When Lorelai gets to her bachelorette party (at a drag club), she’s surprised to see Emily there. Michel invited her. Emily can’t believe Lorelai isn’t more nervous about the wedding, which is only days away. She tells everyone that before she married Richard, she would try on her dress every night. After her story, Sookie calls Jackson and Rory texts Dean. Lorelai calls Christopher. She tells him she’s getting married and he’s totally happy for her because he’s not a creepy stalker yet. The next morning, Max is upset that Lorelai hasn’t given him a set of keys to the house. They have a little argument and Max says Lorelai is selfish.
That afternoon, Luke brings over a chuppah for Max and Lorelai to get married under. He made it himself. That night, Lorelai tells Rory to pack. They’re going on a road trip because she doesn’t want to marry Max. On their way out of town, they get stuck at the new stoplight, which has thoughtfully been timed to allow Stars Hollows’ oldest living resident to cross the street. In other words, it takes forever.
Fran: What’s more important than your wedding day?
Lorelai: Well, it ain’t Guy Fawkes Day.
