Lorelai asks Rory why Dean broke up with her, but Rory’s doing that thing where she shuts out her mother and won’t talk about what’s bothering her. She immediately goes to her room and starts putting everything that reminds her of Dean into a box. Lorelai tries to tell her she might want those things someday, but Rory gives her the box and tells her to get rid of it. Lorelai shoves it in the back of the closet, right next to her Max box.

At six o’clock the next morning, Rory barges into Lorelai’s room and wakes her up. She wants to deal with her breakup by making a list of errands that need be taken care of. Lorelai tells her to wallow and really deal with the breakup, but Rory insists she’s fine. The girls try to go to Luke’s, but all the routes there are blocked because Rory won’t go down any street where she might see or think about Dean. They end up climbing over trashcans in an alley. When they get to the diner, Lorelai is shocked to see the six a.m. crowd and flustered when she sees Rachel is still hanging around. Rory is sure the whole town knows she’s been dumped. Lorelai tells her she’s wrong, but of course she’s not.

Luke gets angry when Lorelai tells him Dean broke up with Rory. He sees Dean walking toward the diner and goes outside to tell him to stay out. They start wrestling in the middle of the street. Lorelai pulls them apart and then tells Rory they can run their errands. When they’re done with that, Rory gets out her schoolbooks. In her backpack, she finds an invitation she got from Madeline. She’s having a party that night, and Rory decides to go. Lorelai suggests she take Lane with her.

After Lane and Rory leave for the party, Lorelai gets out her Max box and decides to go see him. Rory took the car, so Lorelai goes to Sookie’s to see if she can borrow hers. She finds Sookie freaking out because Jackson is cooking her dinner and won’t let her in the kitchen. When Lorelai gets to Max’s, she tells him she misses him. He invites her inside and they start making out. Neither one of them really knows what to do about their situation; Max is still Rory’s teacher and Lorelai is still Rory’s mother. In the end, Max suggests they talk on the phone on a regular basis and take it from there.

Lane meets a nice Korean boy at the party and dances with him all night. Tristin and his girlfriend, Summer, are having issues. Summer breaks up with him in front of everyone. Rory finds him hanging out by himself in another room. She sits down and starts talking to him, and suddenly they’re kissing. Rory starts crying and runs out of the room. When Lorelai gets home, Rory is in her pajamas on the couch. She says she’s ready to wallow.

Kirk, on why he dislikes Dean: On reflection, I think it was the floppy hairstyle.

Lorelai: Look in somebody’s sock drawer. Rich people have hilarious sock drawers.

Lane: Hi, I’m Lane.

Louise: As in, “walk down a…?”
