Gilmore Girls Season One, Episode Fifteen: Christopher Returns
I always really liked Christopher and Lorelai together. Until he gets in Luke’s way in the fifth or sixth season, that is. Then I hate him.
Christopher is hanging out in Stars Hollow for a few days. Rory takes him around town and everyone has an opinion on what celebrity he looks like. He tries to buy Rory an expensive book, but his credit card is declined. That kind of sums Christopher up. He’s personable and likable, but he can’t seem to get his act together. Rory takes him to the town’s pickup softball game to meet Dean.
Emily invites Christopher’s parents over for Friday night dinner so the whole fam can be reunited. For some reason, she thinks this is a grand idea. Rory’s never met her paternal grandparents before, and it’s a good thing because they’re a couple of snobby bitches who aren’t even interested in getting to know her. They hate Lorelai and start an argument before dinner can even be served. Christopher’s father insults Lorelai and Richard defends her. When Lorelai tries to thank him, he yells at her for all the hell she put him and Emily through when she got pregnant and ran away. Lorelai goes up to the balcony outside her old room. Christopher joins her and they end up having sex.
Meanwhile, poor Luke is waiting for Lorelai to come help him paint the diner like they’d planned. She doesn’t remember until the next morning. She rushes over to the diner in her pajamas to apologize. Luke is hurt and acts distant. Lorelai goes back home and Christopher tells her he wants to marry her. Lorelai refuses, of course, and Christopher goes home.
Lorelai fixes things with Luke when she paints the diner while he’s not there and then tells him Christopher has left town.
Lorelai: A single celled organism crawled out of the primordial ooze, and that pretty much led to Dean.

I’ve hated Christopher from the start. Mostly the deadbeat part. You want to impress Lorelai? Get a job! Pay child support. That and he says nothing while his father is horrible to his daughter. I agree what on Earth was Emily thinking? But I did love the talk between Emily and Rory.

I also really liked Emily’s talk with Rory.
I agree he really sucks in a lot of ways. I think one of the reasons I like him is because he and Lorelai just seem so comfortable together. Or something. I don’t know, it’s hard to explain.

It always annoyed me that Richard and Emily never let go of the Chris and Lorelei getting married thing. Even when it happened.
