Gilmore Girls Season One, Episode Eleven: Paris is Burning

1

Madeline and Louise say hello to Rory at school, which is a strange new development. Paris is having a rough time lately. Her parents are going through a very public divorce and it’s making Paris act like a total bitch.

Lorelai has a date with Max and he actually shows up on time, which is totally unexpected to the Gilmore girls. Rory does not want to answer the door because it would be awkward and she doesn’t want to see her teacher outside school. Lorelai makes her answer the door because she’s not dressed yet. Awesome parenting. The whole thing leads to Max and Rory chatting and Max asking Rory to call him Max instead of Mr. Medina. When Rory suggests they invite Max to go skating with them, Lorelai freaks out and decides it’s time to break things off. Sookie tells her she’s right on schedule. Apparently, after dating someone for two months, Lorelai starts talking about ending things.

There’s a parents’ day at Chilton and Lorelai tells Rory she probably can’t make it. Rory figures out that Lorelai is going to break up with Max and she insists that Lorelai come to parents’ day to do it. Max and Lorelai end up making out in the classroom and Paris sees them. To take the heat off her and her parents’ divorce, she tells everyone about it and they all start gossiping. Rory yells at Lorelai and the next day she yells at Paris. Paris, in a rare show of conscience, apologizes and says she just wanted people to stop talking about her.

Emily finds out about the kiss and she yells at Lorelai at the next Friday night dinner. Max and Lorelai meet a few days later, and Max says he thinks they need to break up because things are too complicated.

Lorelai: Wow, you’re the new Heather.

Other Notes: Sookie asks Jackson the produce guy to go out with her.

Was this the one where Lorelai gets all bitchy to Sookie at one point when she’s soaking her feet and says something like, “You haven’t had a date in years,” and then gets all apologetic? And then she asks out Jackson? I vaaaaguely remember that.

It is that episode. Also in that scene, Lorelai looks like an idiot because her hair is in high little girl pigtails.

There comes a point in every woman’s life at which she needs to come to terms with the fact that she’s too old for pigtails.

I love Rory yelling at Paris and Paris actually apologizing. I agree about pigtails their only cute when your little girl any older and its just weird

I also loved that Paris apologized. She’s such a child sometimes, it’s funny.

Yeah, pigtails on a grown woman just kind of freak me out.

Plus aren’t they really bad for your hair? or is that just ponytails?

I think anytime you have your hair up in a rubberband, you’re putting a strain on it. But it’s really not horrible unless you wear it like that, with the rubberband in the same place, all the time.
