Gilmore Girls Season One, Episode Seven: Kiss and Tell
Rory goes to Doose’s Market after school to flirt with Dean and he kisses her. Rory has never been kissed before and the only response she can think of is, “Thank you.” She runs all the way to Lane’s house with the corn starch she had in her hand. After she tells Lane about the kiss, she runs home to tell her mom, but when she gets there, Lorelai is on the phone with the refrigerator repair guys, telling them about the horrible noise the fridge is making. The phone call doesn’t go well, and Rory figures Lorelai is too crabby to hear about the kiss.
Lorelai goes to Kim’s Antiques to pick up a chair she bought, and Mrs. Kim tells her Rory’s been running around kissing boys. Lorelai figures she must be talking about Dean and she’s totally upset that Rory didn’t tell her about the kiss. She tries in a really vague and unsuccessful way to get the information out of her. Rory doesn’t take the bait because she’s not quite as psycho as her mother. Lorelai goes to the market to spy on Dean. Luke runs into her and she tells him what’s going on. He tells her she’s acting crazy. Lorelai comes to the conclusion that if she acts like she’s totally okay with Rory dating, Rory won’t be afraid to tell her things.
That night, Lorelai finally just outright asks Rory about the kiss. Rory thinks she’s weirded out, but Lorelai insists she’s fine. To prove this, she invites Dean over for movie night at the Gilmore house. Rory is mortified. He’s late coming over, and when Lorelai looks out the window, she sees Babette and Morey have gotten hold of Dean and won’t shut up.
Movie night ends up going really well. Dean likes their horrible everything-on-it pizza, so that’s a good sign. Lorelai does a protective parent speech while Rory is in the bathroom, and Dean assures her he would never hurt Rory and he’s not going anywhere. After he leaves, Rory finally tells Lorelai all about the kiss.
Lane: You can’t leave? It’s “sing your favorite hymn night” at the Kim house. Make a run for it.
Lorelai: Stop saying “mother” like that…Like there’s supposed to be another word after it.
Notes: Taylor Doose makes his debut as he tries to make Luke decorate the diner for fall. Luke is not interested.

I remember this one, but only vaguely. Will you do the one where Rory and Dean fall asleep and it’s all Wake Up Little Susie? I LOVE that plot in almost every TV show. Boy Meets World, Daria, you name it. It’s such a contrivance, but it’s awesome.

Tomorrow!
I remember that Boy Meets World. They fell asleep working on a project or something, didn’t they? Even back then, I wondered how anyone could think those particular eleven-year-olds could be capable of having sex.

Yeah…I think they were a little older than that but still not like old enough for sex. The idea of Cory and Topanga doing it in THAT episode is insane. The Daria one was handled a lot better, IMO.

I love that Rory and Lorelai’s relationship is this bizarre mixture of being way too interested in each other’s lives and completely incapable of talking about the simplest things. Although it seems way creepier when you see it written down than it actually does when you’re watching it.

Yeah, I’m noticing a lot of creepiness this time around. I’ve always just watched it for entertainment and never thought too much about it, but now I wonder how I ever missed the creepiness.

Wow, I’m really starting to notice the lack of communication between Lor and Rory. They are supposed to be so close too!
