Rory has to pick a team sport to play at school. Emily suggests golf and then forces Richard to take Rory to the country club to teach her to play. Neither of them are happy about it and Lorelai tells Emily she expects Rory won’t have any fun at all. As it turns out, they have a grand time. They enjoy each other’s company and end up gossiping together about the things they’ve overheard in their respective steam rooms.

There’s a wedding going on at the inn this weekend. A set of spoiled twin girls are getting married and they’re driving their mother, the horrible neighbor from Roseanne, crazy. It turns out the twin girls are marrying a set of twin boys. Everyone is pretty creeped out. Michel puts a post-it on one of the boys’ backs so he knows which is which.

Lorelai is surprised and upset that Rory didn’t have the worst time ever with Richard at the club. When Richard calls the inn the next day to talk to Rory, Lorelai gets pissy. She picks a fight later and starts acting like a moody teenager instead of, you know, a mother. Sookie tells Lorelai she’s just jealous that Emily and Richard like Rory better than her. Lorelai realizes she may have raised a kid who actually wants the country club life she ran away from.

At the next Friday night dinner, Emily is very smug about the fact that Richard and Rory had such a wonderful time.

Emily: You can use your mother’s old golf clubs. They’re upstairs gathering dust along with the rest of her potential.

Michel, to Lorelai: To me you are the teacher in the Charlie Brown cartoon.
